The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) has recently unveiled the model paper for Class 10th English, providing students with a comprehensive overview of the upcoming examination syllabus and model papers.

In accordance with the guidelines outlined in the model paper, students can expect the following structure in their English examination:

Section A: Literature (30 Marks)

Students will encounter a diverse range of questions testing their comprehension skills, literary analysis, and inference abilities. This section includes a single seen stanza from the prescribed poems, followed by multiple-choice questions (MCQs) designed to evaluate comprehension, literary devices, and inference skills.

Additionally, an unseen passage of approximately 400 to 500 words will be presented, accompanied by MCQs and comprehension questions. Students will also be tasked with providing a suitable title for the passage, answering one-word substitutions, and demonstrating vocabulary usage, inference, and analysis.

Furthermore, a question based on visual data such as pictures, statistical data, bar graphs, pie charts, or histograms will be included. This will be followed by MCQs and short-answer (SA) or very short-answer (VSA) questions focused on inference, analysis, evaluation, and more.

Section B: Grammar (10 Marks)

This section evaluates students’ grasp of grammatical concepts and usage. It includes a passage with blanks to be filled by using appropriate articles, modals, relative pronouns, and more. Furthermore, students will be required to convert a passage given in direct/indirect speech into the inverse form.

Additionally, editing of a contextualized passage, story, or paragraph will be conducted to assess the correct usage of tenses, punctuation, articles, pronouns, spellings, etc.

Section C: Writing Skills (25 Marks)

In this section, students will be assessed on their ability to express themselves effectively through written communication. They will be tasked with creating/writing dialogues based on a given situation with the help of hints.

Moreover, writing a notice with the assistance of provided hints (50 words) and crafting a message with the guidance of hints (50 words) will be required. Additionally, students will need to write either a formal or informal letter.
